Thank you so much for this site! I haven’t scoped in a few years, and I am so happy that I found your site!
I am trying to find some good tips regarding what to say in my ad that I will be posting on the scoping boards. I would like to stand out a bit so that people notice me and give me a shot!! Thank you so very much. Have an AMAZING day!!
You’re welcome, Vivian! I’m so glad you’ve found it helpful. The biggest tip I can give you is to explain in detail what problems you’ll solve for your reporter. They want to hear what you can do for them.
Thanks for reading!

Hi Natalie. I’m really enjoying your website. I’m considering becoming a scopist. Which online school would you recommend?
Stephanie
Hi, Stephanie. That’s great to hear. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to an online school I loved and would recommend. I was pretty disappointed with the course I took, and my teacher passed away in the middle of my training.
The three most common programs are Internet Scoping School, BeST Scoping Techniques, and Accolade Scoping Education. My advice would be to talk to graduates from these schools.
If you’re interested, I run a Facebook group called Just For Scopists, and I know members of JFS would be happy to help you make an informed decision.
Hope that helps!
Natalie
Hi Natalie,
I sent you a request to join the Just For Scopists FB group. I’m trying to find out if there really is enough work out there or if I’m wasting my time. I have already started an online school. Some of the FB groups make it sound like there is not enough work to go around.
Thank you so much for this site! I’m also in Dallas and I’m just beginning to consider scoping as a career and would love to connect with you and possibly shadow you for a day to get a feel for how realistic this might be for me. Are you up for it?!
You’re welcome, Kristi! Thanks so much for reaching out. Unfortunately, scoping doesn’t really lend itself to an effective shadow experience. However, my “What It Takes To Be A Scopist” article was written to help potential scopists make an informed decision when considering a career in scoping.
But if my free content doesn’t answer all of your questions, I do offer phone consultations and would be happy to discuss further. If you’re interested in scheduling a date/time, my consulting rate is $75/hr, and my e-mail address is nataliehassig@gmail.com.
Sigh. Everyone wants to charge just to have a conversation! Thank you for your site content. It’s very helpful.
Hi Natalie,
I just read your article ‘What it takes to be a scopist’. It’s really great, and it jibes with what I’ve already read about scoping. Very interesting.
Now my question is, as I’ve read more than one place that ‘you can do it anywhere in the world!’, is this only for Americans? I’m not from America, but scoping really interests me. I have been considering one of the online schools – but would hate ending up wasting my time and money for education I can’t use. You already work in the business; do you think any court reporters would be willing to use non-Americans if they do a good job?
Sandra
Hey, Sandra.
Thanks for reading!
As long as you have strong English skills and you’re crystal clear about your time zone, you shouldn’t have a problem finding clients. If I were you, I would join court reporting groups on Facebook and network with other reporters before investing in a training program.
Best of luck to you,
Natalie
